The Former Imperial Capital Conservation Centre is collaborating with the Japanese Waseda Heritage Institute to renovate Long Duc Palace in Hue City, Vietnam’s former capital.
Japanese experts from the Monotsukuri University will be brought in to survey and redraw the palace’s original structure and monitor the restoration of decorative patterns on its walls.
Long Duc is a wooden structure built by King Gia Long of the Nguyen Dynasty in 1804 in the traditional architectural style of Hue’s imperial palaces.
Over the past 200 years, the building has gradually deteriorated.
The restoration is part of a project to conserve the entire Can Chanh Palace in the Imperial Enclosure complex, which was recognized as a World Heritage Site in 1993.
